Neshannock Creek, Lawrence County 5/11/11

Got on the stream in one of the general regs areas at about noonish. Nothing hatching, but perfect water conditions. Started pulling in fish immediately. After about 30 minutes a PAFBC stocking truck pulled up followed by a convoy of a dozen cars. Everyone lined up to carry buckets. PAFBC guy handed out 3 buckets, the fish got dumped, and everyone got back in their cars and left.

Fly pattern didn't matter. Any #14-12 fly fished deep would get hits. Caddis patterns were particularly good. Got fish out of every likely looking spot. Between two of us, we lost count pretty fast. All the high water really kept a lot of fish from getting roped and those fish are still pretty stupid.

hughzar, was that you parked at the rt 19 bridge? kev, good to hear the neshannock is fishing well. we just need them to start hitting on top!!

Since it was blown out opening weekend I bet theres tons of fish in there. I was there last weekend and only saw one rise :-(

biker, I was parked next to the bridge on 422. It's about 1 mile from 19.

I've always had better luck on the rock when the water gets lower. should be getting good in a couple weeks. then the bass will start hitting as well!

Hit Neshannock again today. Water had some color to it from last night's rain but was in pretty good shape. Not quite as fast and furious as the other day, but it still got a little silly. Every spot I've tried so far this year has been loaded with fish. Not too many guys out fishing the open water during the day either. Lots of water to explore by yourself.

Slippery Rock on the other hand got blown out again last night. High and dirty.

Slippery Rock Creek is high and muddy, nothing hatching as of today. A couple of days ago 2 guys @ the lower bridge off of Armstrong rd & HC rd were pulling em out left and right off of rooster tails.

I haven't had one bite on flies in the last 2 weeks, granted water levels were not favorable 75% off the time.

I'm headed up Volant for the first time on Sunday. I hope the water isnt as bad as the Slippery rock today.

Our area got drenched again overnight. The creek probably won't be in decent shape until mid-week. Longer for SRC.

I think SRC being so terrible is kind of a good thing. Think about how great the fishing will be when the water clears up in June!

June fishing for trout on SRC is short-lived most years, unless the nights stay in the 40's to low 50's. Of course, with the goofiness of the weather this year, anything could happen. Now bass fishing... that's a whole other, and better, story. :-D

That was my daughter and I out on SRC at Rt. 19 last week. Fishing for the only thing worth fishing SRC for and that wasn't stockies! We went out twice and did pretty well BTW. I went Tuesday by myself after fishing near Volant. To be honest I got sick of stocked rainbows and playing hop scotch with people, so I stopped by my favorite piece of water and tied on a clouser. All it took was one cast to make me forget all about trout!
