Neshannock Creek, Lawrence County 12/1/12

Fished Neshannock today while the fiance checked out the town shops. Beautiful day to be on the water...started out at 11:00 till about 3 for a lunch break with my lady...then back at it till sundown. started outside the fly shop then walked past the bridge down to "lazy hole" and didn't have a single bite. All action happened after lunch till sundown (about 3:45 till 5 )...all were caught behind the shop on a san juan worm except for one I hooked into but hey still counts...credits to the fiance for the photos

that water looks quite clear,

if i may offer a little advice ? - that indicator would have stood out to the fish a mile in that clear flat water, so you might see your catch rate improve with a more natural colour indicator - like tan,olive or white fly yarn...

thats what i use on tailwaters anyway.

hey no sweet geebee...always open to advice...that wouldn't be a bad idea and i should invest in some other colors besides the neon for when its that clear like ya said..have to look into that for next time

the white thingamabobbers as well as the white fishpimps always worked well for me.

Nice report. I wouldn't fish anywhere but the stretch behind the shop until it gets float stocked in the spring. With the low water though I guess it's a good idea to just see what the stream is like down there.

I'm a big fan of thingamabobbers also. They are very sensitive too which helps you detect those subtle bites.

Im not so sure if color plays much part in the "spook factor" of a strike indicator. If you were underwater and looking up at something on the surface, I think you would find it difficult to perceive a color, it would just look dark/black. That said, I agree that you need to take some care in choosing the right indicator per the conditions. Low and clear means you should be going as small as possible. Dry fly for example. I almost always use the smallest thingamabobber. Its a 1/4" in diameter, and I like the clear orange. One, it hits the water lighter, and it doesnt look like a beach ball drifting overhead. I also like the really small stick on foam indicators. I find they hit the water like a feather and they are super sensitive. You just cant adjust them.
