Neshannock Creek, Lawrence Co., 4/14/10

Got on the water around 8:30 AM. Not much happening until grannoms started at around 9:00 AM. Fish took flies off the surface steadily and almost exclusively for about 20-30 minutes then they switched into pretty random feeding. Some on top, some chasing emergers, lots of activity but hard to pin down what each fish wanted. There were a enough fish feeding on top though that I tried an EHC in every area and got a least a few takes. Fishing to likely lies produced more than trying to chase rises. Easly missed, pricked, or lost 12-15 fish. Only ended up with 7 landed. Should have and could have been a 20 fish day. The stream is in great shape but we do need some rain to keep things goinf good in the long run.

There are a ton of caddis hatchign right now. It's probably the best hatch of any sort we'll see on Neshannock so take advantage of the situation.

Also, I completed the slam. Stocked bows, stocked browns, and a stocked brookie.

Fished there yesterday, 4/15. Caddis were in the air but overall hatch is definitely on the wane. Caught 13 between 10am and 1pm. 9 were on top but had to cast hard on sections where I noticed fish were working the hatch. Highlight of the day was a pig football-shaped rainbow -- 18" about 3 - 4 pounds -- that slammed a beadhead green caddis nymph. Everything really shut down by 1:00... Fun day.
