I met up with a fellow fisherman on the Savage and we decided to fish the evening hatch together on the N. Branch. We fished the section below Blue Hole, for those not familiar, it is the upper portion of the lower catch and release water near Barnum. The hatches were pretty impressive for the N. Branch. Large March Browns, Isos, Sulphers, Caddis and stoneflies. We fished the deep riffles leading into the very large pools on the N. Branch, and there was just enough surface activity to keep things interesting. I took two on a size 10 stimulator, another two on a march brown emerger, and one more on a sulpher dun. While my fishing partner took several nice fish on a parachute Iso pattern, including a nice 17inch Goldie. This river was a pleasure to fish, as you could basically cast, as far as you like, and watch the fish come up from the deep to eat your fly. In all, I think it will be very difficulty in the future to match this years fathers day gift, but I suppose the best gift of all is seeing my little girl make it to 1 year old happy and healthy.
