Muddy Creek, York County, 6-7-15

Fished the FFO stretch from about 10:30am - 2:30pm. Stream was very low but the water was a little stained. Last week's rain did little to effect the water level. Saw a lot of caddis as I made my way upstream to my starting spot so I began fishing with a bead head caddis pupa dropped off a bushy cdc caddis. Missed one on the pupa right away then nothing. Eventually went underneath completely with the pupa dropped off a hare's ear. Couldn't keep the chubs off either nymph. Missed 2 - 3 trout in the process but the chubs were so irritating and my success was so poor I finally cheated and put on an olive bead head bugger. Immediately began to catch some trout. Still had to fight the chubs off but not as many as with the nymphs. As I was making my way downstream my fishing was interrupted by an outing of the Muddy Creek Redneck Yacht club. About six "kayakers" including two in an inflatable came down the stream bouncing off every rock and dragging bottom repeatedly. Probably took all of them at least ten minutes to get by me since they were so strung out. Why they chose that trickle to float down when there's something called the SUSQUEHANNA RIVER a few miles away is beyond me.

Unless there is some substantial rainfall and temperatures stay average to below average it's probably time to leave Muddy Creek alone until fall.
