It had been a long time since I had a chance to get out with Dave_W and Afishinado. We spend a lot of time solving world peace here on Paflyfish, but don't see each other very often. We got some good tips from Maurice, but he couldn't join us. Something crazy like work for him.

Weather
Cloudy with some drizzle and one bout of downpour for about 30 minutes. Temps were in the mid to upper 60's all day. The previous day the weather was very warm (80) and sunny.

Water
The water was clear and running at about 160CFS. The water temperature was at 60 degrees.

Hatches
The was really not much happening. I think I saw about three small tan caddis flying about during the whole day.

We spent most of the day nymph fishing. I was using a GRHE and did pretty well, but had to really keep it down on the bottom. Tom decided to put on a clinic later in the day with some dry fly fishing with a caddis. There was a slow riffle with a few coming up and he went to task on them. I put on a caddis and raised a few up in the next pool.

It begs the question with no caddis on the water and no risers, why did those fish all of a sudden decided to take those flies?

My son and I were in the same area yesterday and had the pleasure of seeing and talking a bit with Dave, Dave and Afish.

We fished til near dark with our experience being about the same. Although late afternoon they really turned on to wet flies for us. We used a soft hackle in tandem with a spun fur wet. They went for the soft hackle right away and later turned on to the darker fur fly.

Fun day!

Some more pics. . . .

Nice! Dave K, I don't think you're fishing enough in your retirement.
(Yes, I'm jealous.)

I have been getting out more, but I would go out more if I could. Always great catching up with these guys. Hope to see you soon as well.

Fritz,

Nice to see you and your son. Glad to hear that you did well even after we stirred up your holes downstream. 🙂
