I had been looking at the weather for several days and trying to figure out which would be the better days this week. I had my eye on Wednesday for a little bit, but then the announcement about the Opening Day on Tuesday had me a little worried about crowds. I went anyway as I needed to get out and the day looked good.
I arrived at the stream about 9:00 am with air temps in the mid 50's and mostly sunny skies. There were a few minor passing thunderstorms in the region last night and seemed to have no real effect on the water. The water was pretty clear, close to 60 degrees and running at 200 cfs. The air temps pushed up to about 70 when I left in the afternoon.
Not a lot of bugs to speak about, so I spent my time mostly with a black streamer. I tried a few other flies with no luck. The black stream kept me busy in the runs and pools.
It was a really beautiful spring day. Plenty of eagles, turkeys, kingfishers and ospreys all day. The osprey were making a good day of it getting some trout too.
I only saw one other fly fisherwomen on the stream all day. She walked pretty far around me to give me some space.
