Muddy Creek, York County, 4/24/16

Managed to get out this afternoon after some yard chores. Started in the upper fly area swinging a tandem of beadhead nymphs (big Stonefly and a peacock softhackle) and picked up two real quick, then had a long stretch with no bumps. Happened upon a pod of stockies and landed a few more twitching the rig on the swing. Tired of playing with them I moved and found some more and crossed a few more eyes.

Around 4:30 pm I happened upon a nice pocket water section with no luck nymphing then I saw a rise across the way....also noticed a few caddis dapping the water. Changed out the nymph rig for a caddis dry and it was game on. Had a 1.5 hour fenzy of fish smashing the caddis. Funny thing was they would only hit it if I popped it up off the water and let it fall again. It worked well. Picked up another 10 there and missed/had on and lost about another dozen.

Moved down again when the action stopped and caught the last two fish of the day but missed another six on drys on the way out.

At 6:40PM the caddis were migrating upstream in a blizzard.

Must have been near you during the afternoon Mo. Buddy and I fished the fly area from about 11:00am to almost 4:00pm. We parked at the lower end and fished as far up as the mouth of Tom's Run. Didn't see another person once we started. Our original plan was to try the open water at Woodbine but I guess the stocking truck came by recently because there were 11 cars parked at that bridge and numerous other cars along the stream as we detoured back to the FFO stretch.

Anyhow, water is low, clear and in need of a shot of rain. There were steady caddis coming off all day but saw very few risers and no regular ones. Caught one small wild brown on top on a tan caddis. We caught a lot of fish on woolly buggers (what else is new?) and I managed a couple on nymphs (BHPT and BH caddis pupa) Fish were scattered throughout the stretch we fished with lots in the larger holes as you might expect. We left before the caddis blizzard started or maybe it just didn't happen on the lower end.

Next trip there will be with plans to fish into the evening.

Nice Maurice. I hit a wild stream Saturday with a caddis and stimulator. It was blowing up fish everywhere nothing big tho. Sunday I didn't make it out till late. I fished a closer wild stream got some little browns, a decent one, also a big stocked bow. The bow either swam upstream or someone put it there.
