Muddy Creek, York County, 2012/04/21

Fished the Muddy on Saturday with my FIL before the rains came. Water temp 62, Air temp 75, low and clear conditions. Sulphur spinners were abundant the evening before but no duns spotted this day. Although the sulphur emerger was working, not many fish caught all day. Picked up a few wildies on a bugger. Bill caught several as well on the same pattern using a spin rod.

Both of us had an enjoyable day together in the wilderness of York County. Not sure at his age (84) I will be taking him that far from the car again. He was on injured reserve on Sunday....but I hope to be able to keep up with an angler of my pace when I am his age. God willing.

Great post guy. I also hope I'm still fishing when I'm his age. I really need to get back down to the Muddy again soon.

Wonderful report, Maurice.
I have so many wonderful memories of trout in the very same pool that Bill is standing in.
I haven't been there in a while. Last year where Bill is looking, there were signs "Stay in the Water, private property" and two years ago I was walking back on the railroad tracks (right where you guys are) and a guy stopped me and said "this is private property, stay in the creek, don't walk here or you will be arrested"
Going downstream a bit, there are now survey markers and roads along the creek.
Way downstream, a guy came down the steep hill with a shotgun in his hand and told me to get off the private property now!!
They used to stock it every couple weeks all summer! I guess you can call it "York wilderness" but, it isn't the wilderness it was twenty years ago.

PS- The first trout I caught with a fly rod in Muddy Creek was exactly where Bill is standing. About twenty years ago, a 5/6 glass rod with a size 12 fly shop purchased stonefly nymph. A beautiful 11" brown...... I still have a picture of that brownie in my mind!!

I'm pretty sure it's the deep pool a couple hundred yards downstream from the parking field. Cross the creek, and around the bend? Just above the building?
Looks to me like Muddy Creek Forks, not the FFO water?
It looks like it to me, but if not...... no big deal, I don't want to spot burn anyway.

I must say though...... all Mo's pix look like the same fish to me??

Yo 1wt you should hit that deep pool with your AWESOME float tube since it works better than anything anybody else has. :roll:

LOL! DD, I wish I could float my float tube down that beautiful creek! Last summer, the guy who lives across from the lower Hemlock FFO section was tubing with a couple kids down Muddy Creek at that exact spot. I talked to him later and he told me that Muddy goes all the way downstream to the FFO section?

All kidding aside, if you have a float tube, Delta, we could hit a lake sometime and catch the 'gills and perch?

You don't post reports with pix that much. Last year you had a pic of you with your brother about 50 yards upstream from there? Remember? I think you said that the FFO section was too crowded so you went to the Forks instead? I think you caught one small trout that day on a black woolybugger?
Really, I don't want to stir the pot! I'm so very glad that you are in TU, a good organization, but I just assumed that you didn't catch that much with your flyrod? I thought maybe more of a talker than a fly fisher??

I always bring a blank check with me every time I fish Muddy Creek because when I meet you some day...... I know that you won't stop talking until I join Trout Unlimited? LOL

PS- Only kidding about the same fish! ..... that's what you always say about my reports!

No thanks guy. I'm one of those idiots with a KAYAK. Just so you know my KAYAK would have no problem doing a float down Muddy.
