Muddy Creek, York County, 10/29/2008

Fished Muddy Creek 10/29/08. Caught a nice brown right away at the upper end of special regulations. I saw two bald eagles together and a yearling jumped across the stream and ran up past me. Temp was around 35 winds about 20 but I felt a slight breeze being down in the valley amongst the trees. I then packed it up around noon and drove to lower end of regulations. Caught a really nice brown in the flat section on the far bank. Put up a decent fight on my 7'0" 5w that I purchased for those smaller streams. I know, 5 weight sounds heavy for that length but I thought I might try it. Anyway, I caught some nice fish, and how else would I want to spend my birthday. As cold as the water was I'm sure glad my waders didn't leak. I found myself stomping my feet along the bank to get my circulation back cold as a mutha. Hares ear did the job all day, nothing else was working.

Thanks, Leaky. I've never fished that area before, but tomorrow I'll give it a shot with my 4wt.
When you say "special regs" I assume that you mean catch & release only with a flyrod and barbless hooks. That's OK with me!! It's the only way I fish.
The last couple months have been terrible for me. The Susquehanna smallmouth have vanished......... I even picked up my spin tackle! Still terrible!! Even live bait!!!
I'm going crazy!! Squirrels with a shotgun in the State Game Lands and I've been waiting for the stripers to migrate down the Jersey Coast.
You saved my life! Now I'm going to tie a couple flies....... if I still remember how! LOL
Getting the gear ready is almost as much fun as the fishing itself.
I'll post some pix if I catch anything tomorrow.

Take 74 down to 425 make right , right on bridgeton rd. take right at dirt road at bridge parking 250 yards on right CARFFO. aNOTHER SECTION UPSTREAM 2 MILES AND PARKING IIIIFFFF YOU CAN FIIIND IT. gET A county atlas Or PA topo Atlas. Gooood luck.

Ok, 74 south from Red Lion, right on 425 from there Bridgeton rd take right, at dirt rd (piney rd), take right just before bridge crossing the creek the parking is (head in ) down the road on the right just as you cross the small brook. "If"....... If you continue up the hill on Piney Rd, it will take you to Kennedy Rd, mile en a half? Take a left Another mile or 2 and you will cross Tom's Run. Past Tom's Run (You should take a left) onto Bruce Rd. About a mile or so down Bruce rd there is a sharp down hill right hand U-turn, which is posted as Catch and release. There is room along the road to park a car or two and a trail that meanders 150 ft in elevation or so down to the creek. "This" is the upper end of regulations, and is marked so along the stream and a yellow wire going across the stream marks the upstream boundary of "Special Regs." Fly only. A few decent browns here and there. Now if you get on here and read this, have yourself a good day. And don't wade to deep, or you'll spook the ones in the shallower run or hole. Beadhead Hares Ear 14 worked for me.

I left before I read your posts, but I found it anyway.
I caught a couple, see my Muddy Creek post.

Was this stream always this shallow? By the looks of the sides of the stream, I'd say it was at least one foot deeper years ago.

That big trout, and even the tiny chub, put up quite a fight with my 4wt.

I released the fish unharmed, as I always do. I wish all the streams in PA were catch and release only!!

No trash or signs of humans in this wonderful paradise. I never trash a creek, and if I see any plastic........ I simply put it in my pocket!

Still some "posted" signs and some houses, but for me it was as good as fishing in remote Alaska.

Thanks again. This winter I'll check out all the wonderful trout streams in PA. This year, '09, I hope to hit them all!!
