Arrived around 1:30p at the lower parking area. The project water was float stocked last week. Water was 55cfs which is as low as I’ve seen it in 24 years. Very boney. What used to be holding water was shallow runs and abandoned slack water. Which would draw you to believe the fish are concentrated in bigger holes. They were but it required some stealth and small flys to get just a few over 4 hours.
But thats OK because it was a beautiful fall day on my home stream and thats good enough for me.
Hot fly was a beadhead metallic green body wet fly #16 on a dropper up from an anchor combo of a gallagher nymph and smaller #18 beadhead with cdc. Had one on each of those too fished slow through the few pools left.
Hopefully this rain today pumps things up. Could use a good hurricane class rain push of like 2-3000 cfs to blow out the deposition shallowing the pools. Fingers crossed.
Had some eagles, heron and deer to keep my shutter busy. Muddy should fish well this week.
PS; forgot to mention that I did find a few rising fish not sure what they were taking. A few BWOs and caddis early with a handful of light colored mayflys and spinners then at dusk(5-6) there was a major caddis migration upstream but no rising fish then. I stung the three fish I saw rising but couldnt keep them on with my orange ant. Guess I gotta stop yanking so hard and yelling SUHN when Inset the hook.
