I stopped by the fly area for the last hour and a half of daylight and fished the hemlocks area hoping for some rising fish. Water temp was just under 70 degrees. With the warm week and high nighttime temps I was skeptical it would be fishable. Water was stained but clear to two feet deep.
I swung a pair of beadhead pheasant tails one with a little white and the other a little red close to the bottom and didn't get a bump despite a few splashy rises in the vicinity. Enough to make me change for the last half hour to a hares ear comparadun. There were a few caddis fluttering and and a handful of cahill spinners too.
I got skunked to the few risers I saw and watched a fish refuse my pheasant tails twice and also my dry once. I did get to see another angler catch a small stocked brown on a pheasant tail swung through the same area I fished on my way out.
Plenty of anglers with five cars in the lot for a Friday evening. I hope the weather hasn't ruined the fishing once again, I am predicting this cooler day will bode well for tomorrow. Gonna explore outside the fly area.
Everyone I talk to down there has been raving about the fishing this spring at the fly area.
