Muddy Creek, York County, 04/26/2015

Fished the Muddy from 1:00 til 5:30PM. Water temp 54.5 degF.Air temp 55-60 Low and clear and high bluebird skys. Fished outside the fly area and saw lots of craneflys a few caddis and even a few march browns. And to my surprise, a Fat BWO (baetisca laurentina) Speckled Dun according to the nut of trouts.

I swung wets downstream on a long line all day. Picked up 6 wild browns, 8 stocked browns and a rainbow to hand. Lots of long distance releases with the long line and plenty of takes and chases visible with the clear water.

Baetisca laurentina

Pretty awesome seeing the Baetisca! I've never seen any on the water only drawings of the nymph in Selective Trout and photos on some bug sites.

Yeah I was standing above a slow shallow pool of occasional risers and seeing a MB here or there and this mayfly comes flying upstream right toward me and You know how usually at the last second they divert their course? Well I put my hand up and swipe at it to catch it thinking it was a MB and to my surprise it didn't even flinch...so I caught it and took the pic.

Those things fly like a C130...not alot of agility.
