Took a new fly rod and new waders down to Muddy Creek today. I figured I hadn't been there in a while. I had other smaller streams I could have gone to but I really wanted to give the waders and studded boots "the test" I missed a lot of trout today and lost a few also. I managed to land two, well kinda land them. I got all of my strikes on a small (1 1/2") micro clouser. The fish were fiesty enough I just am not used to a long #5 rod. I normally fish smaller lighter rods. The cabela's 8' 6" Three Forks rod has a lot of back bone.
As for the waders, my new Frog Toggs are great and having metal studded wading boots allows you to wade in fast water and up over big slick boulders easily. I'm really satisfied with the switch to studs.
I'll tell you Muddy Creek always surprises me for how clear it can be even after a rain. It was pretty clear today and when I drove over the Conewago this morning on the way it was Coffee with Creamer colored which worried me.
I ran into Fritz and Maurice, they were fishing down stream and I was heading upstream. Stoneflies were everywhere, and both Mo and fritz were gettin' hits on size 16 or 14 black no hackle stones.
I lost track of time, and had to get out of there quick. But it was nice talking with the two for a little. I couldn't stop looking at Mo's sammich. It was a really nice day to be out of the house and outdoors.
P.S. As for concerns of the condition of the creek post Tropical Storm Lee, Muddy Creek is in Great shape. I found the stream pretty much the same as it always is. ;-) :roll:
