Flashback in time! Just like "Groundhog Day"

February, five years ago, and two feet of snow on the ground..... ten degree's outside.

I would find my way through the deep snow and take my hand tied size 20 Zebra Midges to Muddy Creek Fly Fishing Only section. No tandem or even a strike indicator! I use a UL rod with one fly on a 7x flouro tippet.

I never saw another guy fishing? Not even Maurice?

That is when I got my 1 wt rod, a Orvis Superfine (I also started the 1wt forum name)

Trout bite all winter and I bailed them. A dozen or so every time I went to Muddy.

I was looking at some old CD's and found these old Muddy Creek pix.

Sticking your reel in the water in below freezing weather?

10 degrees? I think I'll stick to tying flies... High sticking works good in that weather because you can just ice the line in the guides and not get frustrated. I'm hardcore, but you got me beat under those conditions!

Must have been an isolated cold pocket if it was 10 degrees; historical weather data for 2/2/2008 does not support a 10 degrees afternoon temperature there 🙂

Ha. So was the last time SE PA had a high temp of 10F? I think I can remember a hi-teens high in the past 10 years.

Nice trip regardless. Something about fishing with snow on the ground. Fish gotta eat too.

No frozen guides (in the pix) so "cold" would have been a better description! My bad!

Maybe I was talkin' Centigrade? pcray could do the calculations for ya? If pcray can't figure it out, then Jack will give you a ball park temp.
