Fished the creek on Saturday. very cold water temps. I picked up 39 on my first check then 40 a while down the creek. no fish, no hits on streamers and smaal bhpt and hares ear. nothing, but nice to be out. Creek is in great shape. Fished the forks and the spec regs area. picked up some trash, saw one pair of guys upstream that drove a white 4 runner. saw a few bwo's, very small in the air, nothing going on.

good day to take the rod for a walk.
found a 2008 license in a nice protector attached to a dry fly ointment strap holding two containers. If you lost it, let me know.

Those trout should still be around. I was catchin' them on nymphs and buggers not a month ago. You have to get in the water to get to them and I fish the entire stretch. I have a good idea of where they been hidin'. They put hundreds of rainbows and browns in there in october and I have caught at least a few each time out. You probably got to fish em' low and slow. I found one spot where they were just hangin' out waitin' to be caught but I got my excersize findin' dem trouts.

Thanks for the reply. I figure I didn't go deep enough or further down the creek like I usually do. I live very close to the creek, so of course I like it there, im usually on the Gunpowder though.
anywho, from Kennedy onto piney, the gravel road, I fished and walked down stream about 100 yards. What is the yellow wire marker across the creek? Is that where C&R or spec regs ends?

Yes, thats the lower limit.

Please be careful with your boots and grear if you are fishing the Gunpowder regularly. Be sure everything is completely dry of treated before fishing other watersheds because of the Didymo contamination there.

Yeah, like Maurice was saying certain organisms, (Invasive species), are bad for the ecology of a stream. The DCNR has a list of them and they usually come from other countries such as China or others. They travel by ocean liners , cargo ships and are released into places near ports, such as in The Great Lakes as they are released when the vessel emties water from its hull. They then make their way into tributaries and are spread even further into other watersheds by smaller boats and by existing for a short time in say, ( the damp soles of a pair of felt waders ), a pair that may have been in a contaminated watershed and to another uncontaminated one in a short amount of time.

could you be more specific? is that the end of the spec regs? is that what you mean?

and as for being careful, I volunteer by changing out all of the salt scrub stations along the gunpowder, so I am well aware of what to do. anyhow, I have waders and boots for the two different streams. works well for me,
now back to my original question, seems everyone replied about bacteria concerns, Im well aware of this.

Is the yellow wire, the end of C&R or is tha the beginning of the C&R area? The wire Im talking about is along the flat road section at the bottom of Piney...

The yellow wire at the bottom of Piney Rd. is the downstream boundary of Catch And Release Fly Fishing Only, which extends upstream 1.6 or 1.9 miles or so from that point up to just below Bruce Rd.

Yes both the wire along Piney Hill Road and at the bottom of the path off Bruce Road are the upper and lower limit of the C&RFFO area. I helped put them up.

I figured you knew about the Didymo but you can never be too careful with that stuff.

Thanks for your efforts at the Gunny. Frankly, I stayed away fromthe Gunpowder this year because I am not prepared to fish uncontaminated with my current gear set up. I plan to change that this year.

Thanks for the on stream efforts and the video.
Just a question...is the solution just salt water? I know there have been several discussions here on how to effectively clean felt with options such as freezing, soaps, etc. If this is proven to be effective against the transfer of didymo, that would be an easy home remedy.

Is this easier to accomplish in MD because of it being a much smaller state with less waterways? Just curious why such facilities don't exist in PA...

I was reading on TCO's website that there have already trace amounts of rock snot has been found in Central PA. Do you know anything about this?

I have not heard anything of it in the area. To be honest, I have never see/touched it. Except for looking at it in pictures I have no experience with it. I do know that some agricultural/livestock pollution (algae) can look like the pictures I've seen of Didymo.

I have seen in on the Deleware in NY I soaked my stuff in bleach and water followed by a good three days in my freezer! :-D It just covers the bottom. Pretty ugly actually. I am going back up this year and I think I am just gonna by seperate waders and wading boots for streams that have didymo just to be safe.
