Fished down stream of Illick's Mill Road below the dam from about 7:00 am to 11:00. Flow was good but forgot to take water temps. Sporadic rises to tricos observed. A couple of smallish caddis too. I stuck to the riffles as is my habit and managed between 5 and 6, all wild browns, 3 of which went about 11-12 inches, maybe a bit bigger in my dreams. All on nymphs, scuds, black nymphs and drowned tricso. These fish are like 15-20 inchers in other similar limestoners. I've fished the Monocacy and the Saucon pretty hard this summer and they are both fun fisheries. Just smaller ecosytems I guess. I keep wondering, however, if there are any truly large wild browns in these streams. I'm almost sure of it and have been prowling the likely spots. Anyone encountered trout of this size on either of these streams? If so, don't tell me where. It will spoil the search.

I saw a couple of 20"- 22" in Saucon once. If you don't want me to tell you exactly where then I'll just say it was somewhere upstream of the ball field.

Last September I spotted some large browns on the Saucon below the park. Wasn't fishing at the time just driving around. Wonder if any migrate up from the Lehigh during spawn?
