Hit the Monocacy on Saturday 7/16/11 from 8:30-11 am, in the Trophy trout section.
I've been wanting to get into some trico action on this stream, this hatch is no where near the Lil Lehigh but I found a couple fish to cooperate.
I waded into one of my favorite flats. I saw some fish rising sporatically but nothing too consistent. I started with a small hopper and got my first fish after a few casts.
The fish were hanging in the shade/under the trees. As I waded upstream I found some fish that were rising more consistently. I put on an Al Trico #24. Ended up landing 2 fish. The rises started to die down so I switched back to the hopper. There was still some good looking lies under the trees ahead of me. Landed a couple more, one of which was pretty nice around 13" and I almost had to get him on the reel.
It was a good day especially for a quick morning outing.
