Middle Creek, Snyder County 10/28

Fished the Delayed Harvest area of Middle Creek in Snyder County Sunday afternoon. Hooked what I thought was a large trout but turned out to be an 18 inch white fish. I then found the trout laying further up the same current seam and caught a number of stocked rainbows in the 14” range. All caught on white crystal woollybuggers. This stream holds a mix of stocked and wild trout. The wilds come from some colder side feeders as the main stem gets too warm by two shallow lakes upstream. Stream temp was 50 deg.

What kind of "whitefish" are you catching?

Judging from the scales they may be in the sucker family. They don't have the "traditional" mouth I associate with suckers. There is a White Sucker listed in the PFBC site but the mouth still looks lower on the face than these. I've always heard them called white fish by my grandfather and other old timers. I've caught them in faster current and colder water which is something I also don't usually associate with suckers. But maybe they are.

I did some more research into the fish I know as "white fish". I believe they are fallfish.
