I haven't fished Middle Creek since early spring. Things got warm early but we seemed to get rain and cool weather at just the right time. Middle had a ton of pressure early on and I never made it out for the hatches. There were certainly some days I was tempted but there always seemed to be bad timing or a bunch of cars out.
I started down at the bridge on MC Road. This is the furthest downstream I have fished. There are usually holdovers in the fall and winter but it's pretty far down from any springs. The water felt warmer than I thought it would be despite the rain and cooler temps. It was 73 degrees for the duration of my fishing. I caught one rainbow in the faster man-made run above the bridge. No hits under the bridge until I came back down. I proceeded upstream as I was sure there would be some trout in a couple of the faster holes up to the big pool at the corner. I did miss one but was kind of disappointed. I fished farther downstream but it was mostly carp water with a lot of muck.
Next I tried at the second fisherman's fence as a car was already parked at the downstream one where the Lititz Sportsman dumped a bunch in the winter. When I got to the pool (next to a bunch of equipment for irrigation) that always has fish in, the water had begun to cloud up and I couldn't buy a hit. I was surprised to not even get a hit at Limerock Road Bridge. I fished my way up and eventually ended at the big dam above the twin bridges. I did catch 3 trout out of one hole. 2 of the three were beautiful wild browns about 10 and 12. They are definitely in there and not renegades from the Seglock. I did contact the PFC last year (and they seemed very very interested in the pictures I sent. Drawing a blank on the local fisheries biologist but he said they would definitely by interested in some surveying. This was the second summer I promised to get some stream temps throughout the summer but again I failed! First fish caught on black bugger and other 3 on cone head olive bugger. I probably missed a handful, caught about 20 fallfish some 12 inches, a 11 inch largemouth, and 2 bluegills. Middle seems to have very few smallmouth unlike neighboring Hammer. I wonder why. Anyway, it was nice to get out. I'll wait until fall to fish again. Hopefully it does ok with this next heat wave.
