Middle Creek, Lancaster County, 12/31

I headed out to Middle Creek for the last outing of the season. I managed to catch a couple rainbows. The water had great flow and I fished a couple holes I never fished before. It was cold and nice to get out! Both were caught on black buggers. Time to get the new license!

Your info regarding the survival of some stocked trout throughout the summer and info regarding some wild trout has been passed on to the new AFM for survey CONSIDERATION, specifically to document any wild trout there and possibly in one or more of the springs.

Went to Clay Bookstore today to purchase some more bible reading, cant have enough God in your life, and i decided to poke around this area looking at the springs.

Saw a very substantial spring that by all accounts is a full fledged, albeit short, spring creek.
The substrate seemed moderate to poor and low to the valley that is surely heavy with nitrate and phosphorous. So im sure reproduction is limited.
Still it was a pretty little trib and i have no doubts that trout run up it in the summer months to seek refuge.

I have heard rumors of the stretch for years but it just isnt my cup of tea. Still Mike, i believe it would be advantageous of the PFBC to sample it .
Possible delayed harvest area or Keystone? Who knows.

I took a few pics as iam a huge fan of spring creeks. If desired i will take the time to post them if you wish to see.

Sal, was that the one on Burkholder Road? It's a shame where that stream originates and the farmland it runs through. It starts as a little freestone up towards Durlach. Unfortunately most of the other springs come out of the ground right by the stream.

I spent a lot of time at the Clay Bookstore over the years. My dad was history teacher and would always come home with handfuls of books. Most of my time was spent pouring through the the large stash of Pa Anglers and Field and Stream magazines there.

The Burkholder Road is the worst stretch on the stream. Still caught a wild brown in that stretch this spring.
