Back in Ligoinier to visit relatives over the holiday. Fished the upper reaches of the Middle Branch of Mill Creek for about two hours. Only one small brookie on a copper john, which is way below standard for up there.

Air temp was in the lower 30's but it was sunny and felt warm. The water was up but clear and very fishable. I didn't fish all the holes since I wore my hunting boots and didn't want to tempt fate by crossing the stream too often. As usual, it is really hard to get around up there, even in the winter with no underbruch except for the ubiquitous greenbriars.

It was a nice day and a great way to catch the first trout of the year.

This stretch just recently became State Game Land property, releasing it from the control of the local "sportsmans" club. It is a nice place to visit if you don't mind a 30 minute hike to get in and some rough terrain once you are there.

Thanks for the report. Nice to hear you're having success there.

My 2009 trout drought is at 6 days and counting with no relief in sight.

If it comes to that I certainly will. I believe the lower lake was stocked in early December.

Both were stocked actually...not sure why but I guess with all the postponements maybe they figured they'd better. I Caught a lot of fish at the top lake in december at lunch time now and then. They're those NC rainbows. I believe it gets some again in Feb.
