A Laurel Highlands Trifecta of sorts...

Got to Meadow about noon and found fish rising in a nice big pool. Landed 3, hooked several, missed many...mostly on Olive emerger and Adams. Midges galore but refused to go there. Some nice browns in the 14-16 range.

Drove over the hill to the Yough. Fished between the bridges past the outflow. Best day I ever had on the Yough. Hooked a nice rainbow on a bugger while just getting settled. Noticed several rises and plentiful caddis. Caught three in a cdc elk hair caddis. Missed many more and lost a few trying to horse them in. All Browns on the dries. Got to see all the ones I hooked and smallest was about 14 and biggest pushed 18.

Up the road to Laurel Hill at Humbert. Some guy had a little kid at the first hole so I hoofed it back to a hole where I've had luck in the past. No luck in that hole but both on the way to and from the hole I picked up 2 rather enthusiastic rainbows who did a little acrobatics for me. One I picked up just walking with my fly floating down stream as I walked along. Never took off the caddis I had on at the Yough...

Still had a half hour when I passed Kooser lake so, still being rigged up, I found the only unoccupied spot and tried to pick up a few bluegills. 13 inch Brownie took the fly instead. Was the only trout I saw at kooser. Got home before it was completely dark.

Since I haven't been out since opening day it was nice to get a month's worth of fishing in in a little over 10 hours.

Glad you got out!!! All those trout were a bonus...but a nice bonus, indeed! Congrats!

Good day. Since opening day? Whoa, that's a long dry spell. Glad to hear fish are rising on the Yough. Thanks for the report.

I know what you mean. I'm a "prop dad" for my daughters' dance competitions. But... we do what we have to do. If it weren't for vacation time, I'd be a once-in-a-blue-moon angler.

I was hoping to get to the Yough sometime soon, but it looks like USACE is opening the gates... 1500 cfs releases during the week???? What's up with that? I suppose it has something to do with the rain-to-pool-level ratio.

I coach too and would absolutely describe myself that way at times. Fortunately, fly fishing takes some of the prickiness out of me. Oh yeah, I quit smoking 3 months ago and that did not help either. I started back a few weeks ago and the anger has subsided; it's been replaced by regret. I will stop again! :hammer:

I guess if I keep up my habit of fishing 3 or 4 days a week and chewing a can of Skoal a day I won't be a prick or at least any more of one. I'll refer my wife to this thread when she says anything about too much fishing and/or tobacco!!!

Good for you Tom. I'm 4 years off the Copenhagen and I still miss it sometimes. It does get easier as time goes on and you are definitely past the roughest point with 3 months under your belt already.

Smoking was my grandfather's only vice, and it did him in 2 weeks before retirement...after he bought his retirement home on Moosehead Lake in Maine.
