Fished Meadow Run today. The water conditions were just about perfect, good flow and nice color. It was cloudy all day and there was light rain on a few occasions. Never saw a hint of the sun. Saw lots of bugs in the air. Couldn't catch any to get a good look. I am no bug expert but there were some pretty large mayflies that looked like light cahills and some big brown mayflies as well. Lots of midge activity too. Unfortunately I only saw a handful of rises all day.
Fished above the DHALO section in the morning and didn't get a strike. Spin fishermen were doing well with various spinners. A fellow I was fishing with caught a big fat rainbow that was over 20" for sure. It had some shoulders. Not sure if it was a state stocked fish or if it came down from Beaver Creek.
Fished from about noon to 3 above flat rock. Had 5 hits in about 15 minutes on a green San Juan worm. Landed 2 rainbows and lost 2 at my feet. They were very acrobatic and fought extremely well. All were about 12-15" and very healthy. Also got one on a pink egg pattern. Seemed to be more rises in the afternoon but still not many. A little sun may have helped get the dry fly action going.
All in all it was a good day fishing.
