Meadow Run, Fayette County, 03/06/2010

I met FlipNFly this morning to fish Meadow Run and shake off the cabin fever. Melting snow had the water temp right at 32. Water was low and clear when we started, but was rising and coloring some as the day wore on and the snow melted faster. The fish were sluggish, but we were able to land a few with egg patterns. FlipNFly hooked and lost a really nice golden rainbow on a streamer. We saw little black stoneflies on the snow and saw at least one stonefly skittering on the water surface, but we saw no rises. It won't be long till these fish are rising to the stoneflies, maybe next weekend?

It was wonderful to get outside and enjoy some fishing with a fellow PaFFer.

Glad you guys got into some! Looks pretty down there with the snow.

Thanks David. The snow is still over two feet deep there. We pretty much had to stay in the stream to move around. You'd sink in over your knees in the snow.

Meadow is a little too small for the five weight. Maybe tomorrow I'll give the new reel a spin.

catch a cold lol i was sweatting my butt off i definatly over dressed ill put the pics on tomorrow as im too lazy and too tired to go get the camera in my jeep

Also fished Meadow Run on 3/07/10. Very difficult to move around the stream. I was amazed to how different the stream looks with 2 feet of snow in the ground. I also was able to watch a deer move the snow and was surprised to how it was able to do it so gracefully.

Tom Gamber and I got out for a few hours today on Laurel Hill and the Yough and I got to try out my new Allen and Company XL Series 5/6 weight reel. I loved the reel. It looked great on my rod and balanced it well. The drag was silk smooth. I had the pleasure of fighting 3 rainbows and a brown. I made it a point to put all the fish on the reel, and a couple of them even took some line. I still haven't challenged the reel with a big fish taking lots of line, but I'm confident this reel would be up to the task. I wouldn't hesitate to use the larger 7/8 model for steelhead.
