Work has been a bit of a drag lately and I really needed to get out and get some fresh air. This season, Meadow Run has quickly become my favorite stream to get out to for clearing my mind.

This morning I arrived at Meadow Run at 6:45 am. The air temp was 28 degrees according to my car's thermometer. The water flow was low, but very fishable and there weren't too many leaves in the flow. I wore my studded rubber boots this morning figuring that they would be better for hiking on the leaf ridden paths, but I wished I had worn my felt because the stones in the stream were pretty slick... The water temperature it was 44 degrees and the fish seemed to be pretty active. There was little to no wind the entire 5 hours I was there. I only witnessed three rises, and I didn't notice any bugs hatching.

There were a lot more fish in the stream than I was anticipating... The PFBC website didn't indicate when or if there was a Fall stocking, but there must have been. Above the cascades, there were many spots holding some decent sized rainbows.

The entire outing I fished a tandem rig with an egg dropper. The top flies I chose to use were first an olive biot body soft hackle nymph, an olive flashback GRHE and lastly, a "cream weenie," a green weenie tied with cream colored micro chenille. All fish were caught on the egg pattern dropper. I managed to bring 8 trout to hand this morning 3 browns, 4 rainbows and one brook trout. I was hoping to hook into some holdover rainbows because I really like the vibrant red coloring they get in the fall and 3 of the 4 were holdovers. I was pleasantly surprised to catch a brookie, he got off before I could snap a photo. It was at the very base of the cascades. I also managed another 12 hookups, but wasn't able to bring them in... I do mash the barbs when I fish, and I regularly check to see that my hooks are sharp, but today I was wondering if I had mashed the hooks OFF after so many missed fish!

All in all, it was a great morning to get out - it sure as hell beat work, raking leaves and cleaning gutters!

I hope you guys out there are able to get out and enjoy some fall fishing before things freeze over. Thanks for reading

Thanks for the report. I fished the Yough 2 weeks ago and wondered about Meadow Run but didn't have the time to make it over there.

Awesome report. Ive been wanting to fish Meadow but havent had the chance yet this year.

Stevo: There was not another soul out there fishing or hiking that I came across when I was there last Sunday morning. Maybe it was the cold weather, but head out if you get the chance. If you've been there before you know you're in for a decent hike before you get into some fish... Personally, I recommend starting below the cascades and working your way upstream to them. I usually start at the bridge by Dinnerbell road and hike for about 30 or 40 minutes downstream from there. Although the pools that are above the cascades are holding plenty of trout too if you don't want to go so far downstream. I didn't come across too many fish near the bridge at Dinnerbell road though...

Thanks for the report. I had an off day today so I spent a few hours on Meadow. Flow was up and there was good color. I had similar fishing as you did with active fish and no fishermen. Had I not read your report I would not of thought to try it since I only fish there in the early spring. Well worth the trip.
