Today was a BIG day for me! After being skunked while fishing for natives on Friday I was determined to finally accomplish two things off my fly fishing list. 1) Catch a native brook trout and 2) Catch a fish on a dry fly........neither of which I have done in the 3 years I've been fly fishing. Much to my amazement I accomplished both on my 3rd cast of the morning. A friend and I fished near the head waters of McCabe's Run. This is a very tiny stream that requires some tricky technical casting. My first brookie turned out to be a 6.5" and was taken on a size 14 (i think) flying ant. I ended up catching two more that morning on a foam beetle. I did manage to spook some fish but now I think I have a better understanding of where these sneaky little things can hold/hide. All in all it was a great day of fishing and one that I will definitely remember for quite some time.
