Time Fished: 8am - 1130am
Weather Conditions: Overcast 57 degrees, sun peaked thru at 11am and temp went to 75 degrees
Water Conditions: 53 Degrees and very discolored with about 3-4 foot visibility
Insects: nothing to speak of until 10am then I saw 2 types of Caddis, gray fox, March Brown, large crane flies, light Cahill, rusty spinners ....Saw one rise
When I arrived the water was off color but in great shape for streamer fishing. The only issue was I never had a strike in 2 hours. The fish just were turned off in a big way. 2 guys showed up and said the dry fly fishing had been good here on Thursday nights. At least they confirmed there were fish here.
Insects began hatching at 10am but there were only a few. This seemed to get the trout thinking about food. I caught 2 rainbows and had another 5 strikes, but it was disappointing (all after 10am).
I was encouraged by the variety of insects here. Unfortunately I have never seen Marvin when it is turned on. Maybe some day.
I have many insect pictures to post but I wont been able to for a while
Something to keep I mind. Be very aware of deer this time of year. As Does have fawns, last years young ones are on their own and make bad decisions. I left my house well before sunrise since I had a 2 1/2 drive and I saw a pickup that had hit a deer on Rt 66 just north of I-80. Police were still there assisting. About 10 miles later I had to come to a complete stop as 2 deer stood in the road. Before I reached Marvin I had 3 more deer encounters that luckily ended well. They are everywhere right now.
