Marsh Creek Reservoir - Chester County - 6/28/26

My wife and I took the jon boat out yesterday morning. Fishing was slow to start in the morning, with only a few panfish to hand. We ended up cruising around looking for wildlife most of the time. She had somewhere to be at 12, so after dropping her off at the ramp I continued fishing. Caught a decent bass on a popper, while using an old school glass Eagle Claw rod, which was a blast. Picked up another bass as well. I got a bit bored of chasing bass, as it was super slow, I stumbled upon a massive school of crappie which resulted in over 70 fish in the boat in about 2 hours. Pretty much every cast was a fish. Biggest was probably 10-11".

Also was happy to find a smallie, first time getting one in Marsh.

It's a fun lake to fish on the fly, I haven't quite gotten dialed on it yet for bass but in due time.

Likewise! Back in the push button rod, worms and bobbers era. Haven't fished it in a long time.

Lots of fun on the glass rod. I've been seeing more fly anglers on the local lakes, which is cool. I forgot to share the fly, but I tied up what I call the golden squirmy. It's a golden retriever/squirmy wormy combo. I tied it as a joke but it worked. Size 10 I believe.

Have you tried that fly on trout? It'll probably work for them too.

Speaking of warmwater flies - I decided to create a tadpole fly for a fishing trip last weekend. It proved wildly successful for the little amount of effort it took. This was in a warmwater creek on MDs eastern shore. The sunfish definitely believed it was real and were rushing over to grab the tail every cast, although only the bass managed to take it enough to get the hook. This one was about 16".

Sometimes I feel like bass and panfish in a pressured water body just want to see something different.

I have not tried it for trout, I will have to though. I usually just default to the standard golden retriever haha.

The tadpole fly is an interesting idea, I think that you are spot on with the pressure part. I know lakes like Chambers and Marsh near me get pounded constantly..

I always heard there were some big muskie in Marsh. Heck, it wouldn't surprise me if there's a state record in there.
