Air Temp: low- to mid-50s.
Water Temp: no thermometer but it had been raining steadily and the water felt as cold as the air.
Two of my sons and I got to the water just above the Furnace Road bridge at about 2p on Saturday and fished until around 530p.
The boys were able to catch 2/each and I netted one. Three of the fish were small and brightly colored so we decided they were wild browns. The other 2 were a stocked brown and a rainbow. Nothing bigger than 9 inches.
On Sunday, we went to the same place after supper (630p) and left the water at dark. I was able to catch and net 4 without moving more than 10' from my selected spot, including one hefty rainbow, stocked brown and rainbow, and another little brown. The boys each got 2/each (a couple were the little wild? browns).
The bugs we were able to see, and that fish were rising to, were 16-18 Light Cahills of varied body colors - including a very bright pink/orange bodied one that my son caught and later identified as a pink Cahill (he has a handbook of PA flies - I think the Mecks contributed). Most of the fish we hooked were on Light Cahills but a streamer also worked a couple times for the older son. The youngest tied something like a Cahill with a bluish body which worked well for him.
That part of the Manada is nice and narrow enough to require some careful and technical casting. Some spots could use a chainsaw to get into. All-in-all a pleasant outing as it had stopped raining while we were there and had the water to ourselves.
