I was finally able to make a trip to PA that coincided with a few rising fish.
Two of my boys and I fished upstream of Furnace Road. Nobody took the temperature, but when I almost fell in and caught myself, the water felt like around 55-60 degrees. It had been raining in the area for about three days and the sun finally came out on Saturday and Sunday. No great hatches, but three of us saw a variety of bugs including small caddis, golden stone flies, lime sallies, Cahills/sulfurs, blue wing olives, Hendricksons, and March Browns... Nothing when there was no sun on the water, which was stained but not so much we couldn't see the bottom.
Over the two afternoons, we each landed a few stocked browns and a couple wild browns. Rising fish were caught on BWO, caddis, or Hendrickson dries. Anything under water was caught on Henderickson nymph, pheasant tail, or hare's ear. One of my boys was able to hook and land one of the half-dozen palominos he helped dump into the creek, one week prior - I think it took a drop-shotted hare's ear. Overall, the creek seemed to be in good shape, but it is early in the season.
Personally, I was glad to just get out and finally catch fish on a shorty lightweight rod I built last winter.
