Practiced a little social distancing on the Manada creek DHALO which was stocked a week and a half ago. I fished from about 3:00pm to 5:30pm. I saw only one other angler. I was expecting more. But I figured a nine foot fly rod is a good exclusion zone.
Water was at a perfect level and good greenish tint typical for this stream. Midges were hatching in the sun, but no other insect activity observed. I saw several splashy rises throughout the day. I did not fish any dries, opting for a mix of nymphs and junk flies. The squirmy worm was the big producer.
Every fish I landed was a stocked brookie, except for one spirited fall fish. The largest and prettiest brook is in the photos below. In total I landed half a dozen or so and had a few more LDRs. PFBC’s stocked brooks have really improved in appearance and color the last few years. The first fish of the year for me was the other pic. He was not as healthy looking.
I observed many more fish than I caught. Generally they were spooky and switched off. Of course that may have been because the observer was busy catching a fair number of branches, tangling his rig on his rod tip and generally shaking off a lot of rust. By the end of the trip, I had it sorted.
