Today Spectorfly and I headed to Manada Creek. This stream the past few seasons has had some poor stockings on it.Fish were not spread out and most were small. We were curious to see if this year was going to be different.
It was remarkabley different. This fish were spread out very nicely especailly on the lower end of the DHALO section through the woods. Most pools had at least 2 fish in them. Amazingly most of the fish are good size also. Very fat fish. Congrats to the fish commission and who ever helped this year on the creek. Good Job!
Spectorfly probably caught over 10 today and I got at least or around 7. This fishing was kind of slow though. Most of the fish seemed slow to the fly. I dunno if it is because they are so fresh yet or if it was a bit cool. They could have been caught a few hours before we showed up also. There were plenty of fish and we didnt by any means catch them all. Alot of fish wouldnt bite. All fish were caught on woolly buggers. Both olive and white.
Saw at least 3 other fly anglers on the water. Good to see some other flyfisherman out there!
2 Noteable things:
1: I caught a fish today that had a sucker spawn coming out of its butt and the slit shot and line still in its mouth. It actually pasted the fly though its system. Pretty amazing. I cut the line on both ends and was able to pull it through the fish. Hope the little guy makes it through.
2: The rainbows are in pre spawn activity already! We noticed in several shallow pools rainbows were paired up. A few we caught today had shot eggs out and some had squirted milk out. These fish were only stocked yesterday and they are ready to spawn! Amazing! I never seen anything like it. Seems the fish commission did figure out how to get rainbows to spawn in the fall. With the lack of wild fish through the DHALO section......lets hope maybe they can get it going!
