Another winter has passed and we're fishing at Manada again. (Actually one of the boys made it to the water before his brother and I did.)
Anyway, we parked on the Furnace Road bridge and went upstream. Water was ~50 DegF and as low as late summer. Overnight air temps have been 30s and 40s.
Fished from 1p-6p on Saturday and from 530p-8p on Sunday.
Saw Hendricksons, caddis, midges, and (tiny) BWO on the water. I exclusively used dry Dark Hendrickson dun, para, or half-wing. The half-wing tie was one of the boy's experiments and he was very excited to see it catch fish.
I landed a smallish wild brown on Saturday and a couple chubs.
On Sunday, I landed another small wild brown, a stocked brown (12-13"), a rainbow (10-11"), and of course a couple more chubs.
I scratched and missed a few on both days. I left 3 of the 4 flies I used in the trees, if anyone wants to pull them down and try them.
The older son caught a small trout on both days, and the younger caught only chubs. (nymphs, caddis and Hendricksons).
We saw eagles, herons, and a mink so that was nice.
Good to be back on the water despite how thin it is in Central PA.
Regards.
