I fished Manada Creek DHALO stretch on Wednesday from 443 up to the FIG property. Air temps were mild in the 70's with mostly overcast skies until later in the day. I fished from 10:00 until 7:00 which is much longer than I had originally planned. I fished each hole meticulously and spent some time just sitting and watching the fish.
Stream conditions were as follows:
* - Temperature was 56 F
* - Flow was on the low side for this time of the year
* - Saw stoneflies in abundance as well as midges in creme. Stones in #18 or so; midges in 24 or so.
* - Clarity was pretty clear with good visibility using polarized
I was able to hook into a dozen and land all but that many. Strikes were strong as I was fishing a white #10 wooly bugger most of the time. The newly stocked fish have been in the stream for a few weeks and they're starting to get the hang of eating. I tinkered around with some topwater flies (EHC, stonefly, etc.), but struck out.
Fish seemed to be pretty well dispersed through the upper section and they really wanted to play in the broken water. The slower pools just didn't have enough flow to do much other than stir them up with a bugger. Too much time to look at a fly = no fish. Plenty of nice fish in the stream and the usual spots are holding some good sized ones.
I ran into two other anglers that day, that was it. FWIW, the turkeys were really starting to get active as well. Lots of clucking up in the hills! FIG was busy as well with lots of munitions being fired.
