Arrived at the stream and started fishing around 08:30 or so. Parked along Route 443 at the bridge and fished up to the end of the DHALO water where it meets FIG property. I started off picking up a rainbow stocker on a white bugger right by the bridge. I worked upstream with my fishing partner who proceeded to absolutely clean up on a pink weenie with a dropper of a scud hook dubbed with antron. I managed several more through this stretch, but my cohort went well into double digits and ended up pushing probably two dozen for the day.
Most fish landed were stocker rainbows that went +/- 12" in length. A few browns were landed as well and he even picked up a rock bass at the foot bridge to the house! Hey, when you're "on", you're "on"! As mentioned, we fished to the top of this section and walked back down, grabbed a snack and moved to the lower regs waters. I didn't see ever fish landed, but to the best of my knowledge, no stream-bred browns were caught.
We fished the lower regs waters from where the ATW starts (Furnace Rd.) almost the whole way up to the 443 bridge. We didn't have as much luck fishing these waters and it was pretty obvious where the stocking occurred. We did pick up some fish through this stretch, but nothing compared to the top stretch.
We saw a few other guys out fishing, but for all intents and purposes, we had the stream to ourselves. What a day to be out and be casting line. This was my first trip to Manada and I'll be sure to go back.
With regards to stream conditions and other pertinent info:
Stream temp: 48 F
Clarity: Good (easy to spot holding fish)
Flow: Good (stream was in great shape)
Air temp: 50's
Hatches: Once the sun popped out, the little black stones really started to come off. A few rises were spotted and my fishing partner grabbed one off the top with and EHC. The fish really aren't turned on/educated to the stones yet, but that should happen any day!
