Manada Creek/Dauphin Co/ 3-5-11

Fished Manada for about 2 hours Saturday.... Water was running nice and clear as usual. Stockies were all over the place, as were everyone else. Did fairly well for the first trip of the year. Caught 6 on a Polish version of a 16 BH PT. It's a pretty cool looking pattern i found on youtube. Davie Mcphail ties it, check it out if you get a chance.... Caught 1 other on a size 10 marabou streamer i tied which actually looks more like a missile than anything =). Overall good day for 2 hours, didn't get any of the little wild browns that I used to catch, wonder where their hiding? Midges were coming off steady on the upper DHALO section near the gap entrance, found some small mayfly nymphs under some rocks (maybe a 18-20), real tiny, but the food, and fish are there. Go get em'

It is funny you bring up the wild brownies of Manada. That used to be one of my favorite little streams, alot of stockers, and some beautiful natives. However, the last time I fished it I nnoticed major siltation of alot of my favorite and riffles. In fact, in some places it was like I was fishing a different stream all together, especially at the upper end of the stocked water. I fished it really hard with a friend of mine the last time I fished it, which was last spring, and we caught alot of fish, however only one wild brown. I fear they are almost all gone from manada, at least in the easy to access stretches....Ever fish it up onto the military base?? Out of curiosity, what is the highest up anyone has fished manada creek. Id love to know!

Fished it last night for about an hour and got 8 on a white clouser swimming leech.

This past summer a friend and I caught both wild browns and a few native brookies on Manada. That was the first time I fished Manada in years and was quite happy with the number of wild fish we caught, and with the number of hold-over fish into the summer.

As for how high up I've been on Manada, well above the culvert bridge.
