Manada 3/15

Went out this afternoon from 1230 to 5 with the old man. We fished the lower half pulling out fish on green and tan GRHE, pheasant tails. Saw a few caddis and some midges coming off. Ran into the WCO on the way out. Checked our liscense and then headed into the woods to check the others. First time I have run into one in my fishing career. He was very nice personable.

I think that might be the only place I've ever been checked in Pa. They were waiting by the bridge at furnace road, and if I remember correctly we had a nice conversation as well. That spot during the off season works very well for them because everybody that fishes the lower end has to go by them and get checked. That's one place I've never really seen many rule breakers and maybe their presence is why. Glad to hear there are some fish left after those rains.

I actually called the PA Fish Law phone # upon my arrival at Manada staurday morning around 11. Two people were baotong fishing the open water downstream of furnace road and one of them went into the DHALO section. I advised them in a non-confrontational manor regarding the regs. The one who went to the dealyed harvest section said he didn't realize the regs for that section. I told him he could get an explanation by reading the huge white sign posted in the tree right behind him. I walked upstream a way and called the commission.

Sorry for any inconvenience I caused the law abiding fisherman.

For years Manada had a lot of poaching going on, I sure thats why they have been watching it close. I have been stopped there twice in the last couple of years. I had a good talk with the two wardens the one time. They said they were aware of the poaching and were trying to put an end to it.

I wish they would have more of a presence on Clarks, it seems that once a month I will see a poacher in the C&R stretch. I made sure to mention it to him while I had the chance.

I actually spoke to the WCO this morning and he said he will continue regular patrols as he knows this is a hot spot for poaching. I thanked him for his attention and efforts. As far as more presence I talked to another member of Doc Fritchey TU today and he said there is no current WCO for Cumberland county, so the Dauphin county WCO is attempting to cover both areas. Mark (dauphin county) WCO is a dedicated public servant and champion of our waterways and any time you see him be sure to thank him.

They really do need to help these guys out and have at least one guy in every county, there is a lot of water to cover between the two. Do you have a # for the WCO so that I can contact him if I encounter any poachers.

Yeah definitely would like to hit the streams. I get my 40 mon-thurs so that leaves me with fri, sat, sun for fishing, and try to get out 2 of the 3 days.

My problem is Im still fighting this damn lyme disease, it's been tough going. I just started these Vitamin C IV and they seam to be helping me. Im not going to let it stop me from fishing, just don't know how long I'll be able to last.... I get tired pretty fast!

fished the manada about 3-4 times last year and ran into the WCO
twice while i was there. they patrol the DHALO area often since they burned a couple of poachers during the month of march right after a stocking. the best part of this story is that the poachers weren't really locals they were JOCKEYS from Penn National race course right down the road. none of them spoke english while the WCO tried to tell them that they were fishing illegally. had a good laugh with the WCO with that one.
