No hurry to start Tuesday morning with the overnight low in the 40s. Hit the river at 9 and didn’t see a riser till 10 when the sulfurs started. There was a mix of size18s and the larger size 14s we used to call light Hendricksons. Mostly smaller fish were feeding for a couple of hours. The green drakes started hatching about 1, bringing better fish up. The drakes were not very heavy, just enough to show you where the trout were holding. I moved to some riffle water about 2 after seeing some splashy rises. There were both march brown and grey foxes hatching consistently till about 4 when I left.
Wednesday started warmer after an overcast night. The still, moist air had me thinking of a morning spinner fall so I hit the river about 8:30. There were green drakes hatching here and there, just enough to have the fish looking up for an hour or so until the march brown spinners fell about 9:30. The fish fed heavily for about an hour when things went dead. With a work meeting looming, I left the river at about 11.
Nice to see the river turned on. Hopefully I’ll get a couple more cracks at the big river before it gets too warm.
