Main Stem Delaware River, Wayne County PA, 06/02 – 06/03

A cold front dropped the daytime air temps into the 60’s, water temps into the lower 60’s making the mainstem fishable to Callicoon. Flush daytime hatch of Green Drakes and Grey Foxes on Monday with fish up and feeding most of the day, nice March Brown spinner fall towards evening. There were also scattered golden stonefly matting flights thrown in the mix.

Tuesday fishing was a little harder with a sparse Green Drake hatch along with Sulfurs and Caddis which died off towards evening. Fish were all fat and in great shape.

I would think that the Drakes should be hitting the West Branch by this weekend.

Fished lower west branch from 6/2 to 6/5 (last 4 hrs of the day). Monday was very windy and pulled out the 6wt Sage One. Caught a hot bow and two more browns. Had a shot at a large fish ... wind didn't help and my drift was less than perfect ... down he went. Tues and Thurs evening I caught between 4 and 7 nice fish. The largest were 17 inches. All fish were duped on a March Mrown. Not many flies on the water (M Brown may be weak this year). Fished the Beaverkill Wed morning .... March Browns on the water which the fish ignored and got a couple on a black caddis.

Too many ignorant people on the West Branch and I was forced to fish in only a few spots to limit their disruptions.
