My wife had some shopping to do in Lehighton so I decided to spend an hour on Mahoning to see if any fish were left from opening day. I know these are stockers but thought someone might find the report useful.
Water was up a bit from the rain and a bit muddy in the area I fished in the park right behind 443. I started out throwing a wooly but could not get any hits, so switched over to a mop fly. First time I ever used one of these and had no luck but also think Im not comfortable throwing them and dont have the confidence in them like I do other flies. I saw a few bait fisherman catching a few here and there so I changed back to a black wooly and moved around a little.
In an hour of fishing I missed two and brought one to the net and released it to be caught another day.
There are sill quite a few fish in there but they have also seen a lot of crap thrown at them over the past few days, Nice afternoon to get out before more snow moves in.
Tight Lines !!
