Spent this morning at World's End State Park. Beautiful area! The Loyalsock looks very nice there with a good flow and cold temps today. I had hoped to pick up a hatchery fish or two, but saw no evidence of trout. Tried nymphs, streamers, and terrestrials in some fishy pools and pocket water.
WEATHER: Blue bird skies with some clouds. Seventysomething in the am.
WATER: Good flow, slight tannin stain. Water temp was 65 degrees (67 yesterday afternoon at 4pm).
The Little Loyalsock is blowing mud so the river is blown out below Forksville. Evidence of flooding in that section with some bankside damage can be seen all the way to the mouth. Some swimmers and tubers at WESP.
HATCHES: None. Saw some ISO and stonefly shucks on rocks but these were rare. I spent some time rock rolling in the riffles. This section has sparse macroinvertebrate population, although some caddis and mayflies were present.
On a side note, the mountain brookies streams in the area look great with good flows. Bring your bug repellant as the mosquitoes and gnats were out in force and even pestered me when I was out in mid-current on the river. A very bad year for skeeters!
