I fished the last two hours of daylight last night in open water. The water is still on the high side, but clear and very fishable -- normal strong spring flows. I didn't take a temp, but I'd guess the water was in the mid to high 50's. There were plenty of olive caddis comming off (I counted ten in my car on the way to work this morning), but the fish weren't rising. I fished a tandem of a stonefly nymph and caddis larvae and had good success. I had a couple takes that I didn't hook-up on when my nymphs were swinging at the end of the drift, wets may have been effective.
I suspect the high waters this spring have allowed the fish to evade the normal early season harvest. The open water should fish well at least through June this year.
