Water Fished - Loyalhanna DHALO
County - Westmoreland
Date/Time - Friday June 22, 2007 6-9pm
Weather - Upper 70's, clear, sunny
Patterns Fished - BWO, Sulphur Dun, Tan Caddis, BH Hares Ear, , Sulphur Emerger, Egg Patterns

Notes:
Storms through the week brought water up to around 150cfs at the peak which seemed to be overnight Thur according to USGS gauge, so time to head out!!! Friday morning water was stained so went on the ridge ISO wilds. Friday evening silt dropped, water was deep green in the holes. Water temp was 64, air at 78. Despite harvest being open, stream is full of fish, and holding some absolutely gorgeous rainbows. Caught and released 15, all but two were rainbows. Fished an 8' 3 wt w/ 6x tippet. Broke off quite a few fish, could have probably stood 5x with the water up a bit as it was. They are full of energy with the recent drop in water temps. A few took sulphur emergers, the rest took egg patterns (rainbows, go figure). Some rainbows in the 15-17" range , but the highlight fish was a little 7-8" tiger. My first tiger and he bombed a high floating natural color egg pattern in a swift bank side eddy like he hadn't eaten in weeks. Some steady splashy rising going on, but no visible mayfly or caddis hatches worth noting. Some midge activity, probably the source of the chasers.

If you fish the Loyalhanna, get out and have some fun, before they're all gone. Bring lots of eggs patterns in natural, yellows, pinks and chartreuse.
