Lower section on Penns 4/10/10

We got to Penns a little before noon on Saturday. Tons of caddis on the water and in the air. No rising fish. Later in the day we hit a nice Hendrickson hatch. Again, no rises. We nymphed all day without bringing a fish to net. We spoke to 8-10 fishermen and nobody caught fish or saw a rise. The only things we caught were a garter snake and this beauty in the photo. The cold night may have dropped the water temp in that section enough to put all of the fish 'on hold'. Anyone do better up river?

You'll need your Western fly box to find an imitation for that bug. Wow!

So was the sun high and brite all day? Not an easy stream when that is the case. Might as well kiss rising trout goodbye if that the case.

Hey VC,

We saw at least 3 different stones up there Saturday in addition to a blizzard of black caddis and a Hendrickson hatch that would match one on the Beaverkill. Before losing my log-in info 12-18 months ago, you and I were chatting about the Lehigh. I'll PM you in the near future. I'd like to learn a little more about that water and got a pontoon to float it.

I got to fish upper Penns Sat aft between 5-6:30, below Coburn. Some light caddis activity but no fish going after them. The hendricksons were a diff story, caught 5 on top in that little time, missed several others. One small one about 10 in, the rest were all between 13-15 inches. And all looked healthy w/ awsome colors.

I was on spring creek sat, and also found it to be slow. My theory is that the cold friday night shocked the streams for saturday. Who knows... maybe I just fished poorly. I usually do better than I did.

Penns was alive and well on sunday. I know that much.

Isn't it talked about alot - that bugs on Penns usually run 1 to 2 sizes larger than on other steams... I have too seen some bug stone's on that stream...

Penns Creek always had a stone fly which looks like the salmon fly from out west.

This one hitched a ride home with me a couple years ago from Penns in my waders. When I hung them on the clothesline I found a hitchhiker!
