Hi all,
I'm an avid fly fisherman living in the city of Pittsburgh and I primarily fish for trout and smallmouth in Central and Western PA. I am also carp-curious but that is another thing entirely. I am looking forward to being more active in this community and am even thinking about joining my local TU Chapter. Thanks for reading!

Welcome from Reading!…I’m staying downtown in a couple weeks for a wedding. My hotel is a few steps from one of the rivers. I’m seriously considering hitting the river walk one morning with a fishing rod. Is that a good or bad idea?

Should be fine. While not immune to problems like any other big city, Pittsburgh is relatively safe. Just keep your head on a swivel and don't walk through any homeless camps.

Dudeman is right on with the pointers - timing and structure are pretty important too so be sure to check flows and fish the bridges. Also gear fishing on the big rivers is a lot easier than the fly rod

Welcome aboard!

Welcome - another yinzer here. Carp are fun, but the real warm water prizes are smallmouth buffalo and river redhorse. Perhaps Quillback Suckers too.
