Time Fished: 730am - 115pm
Weather Conditions: 68 degrees at start, 82 degrees at end. Skies shifted between sunny and cloudy evenly.
Water Conditions: 60 degrees at 730am and 62 degrees at 130om , clear
Insects: saw some yellow stoneflies and Mayflies
I fished a mayfly upstream and many of the tight windows were frustrating. Many holes are small but the holding water is excellent with the logs and debris in the creek. If you hate get your fly out of streamside vegetation, avoid the urge to fish here.
You never know when a little hole will really treat you well. I had fished through some great cover with no takers, Then a small hole appeared with a little current that slid under a dangling root. I missed 2 fish there. Next hole I got 4 (1 rainbow 4 browns ).and the hole was nothing special. I’m very surprised there were two 12 inchers and two 6 inchers in that hole. I continued to work upstream and most good looking spots did not yield a take. I got to the RR bridge hole and since it is so big I tried many flies and different presentations. These fish have seen it.
When I was ready to head back downstream I walked out to the to check the field to see if there were any posted signs. On my short walk I noticed a little smoldering coming from the fire ring. I put my hand over it and it was still warm. It made me wonder if someone fished here after dark and left before sunrise. Sure looked that way.
On my way back downstream there was a hole with some rising fish (maybe 8) that I didn’t get to fish. I caught one there on a beatle and missed about 5 others.
It was nice to know when I got back to the road and checked the water temperature that it was only 62. I saw 3 other fishers. Before today, the most I’ve ever seen is one person. I ended.up landing 6 browns and a rainbow.
I saw a mink or a large weasel in the streamside brush early in the morning. Driving up I saw a hen turkey cross the road with no poults.
