Little Mahoning Creek FFO 4-29-2018 morning

Water was cold and clear slightly up. Weather was sunny mid 50's
Didn't catch a fish. Didn't have a strike. Didn't see a trout.
What's up. Other years I would catch fish after fish. Not to even see one was surprising. Was wondering if something in water moved them out.

I have had the same experience there in the past. I went to the extent of walking through good holding water trying to spook a fish. I no longer bother with that stream.

I suspect some sort of coordinated poaching program is going on there. Just my suspicion.

I was wondering because all the high water if some mine drainage dumped into the stream.

If this is a consistent pattern of people seeing no sign of trout there, I recommend reporting that the PFBC.

Maybe there is a water quality problem from mine drainage. Or maybe the problem is poaching.

In either case, it would be good to report it to the PFBC.

No spill. It's a fairly isolated stream with a history of being poached. Hard. The old club that took care of the stream has been absent for a decade. Club used to stock incredible bookies to compliment the fbc browns. Not any more. Used to be my favorite "nearby" stream. Damn shame. Had lots of cover stayed fairly cool into the summer.

Back in the day, Ken Sink TU spent a lot of time and money on the stream. For all the strip mining there abouts, I had once fished Green Drakes there, its a good stonefly stream too.

When there is no one left to care for a stream, this is the result I suppose.

Ken Sink TU is still alive and well, but like many TU chapters comprised of a dwindling and older membership. The group remains active on many local streams in Indiana County, but when volunteers are hard to come by things get stretched pretty thin.

Several groups are monitoring water quality in that watershed that its likely not a chemistry issue. I'd actually blame the crazy weather we've had as I've had excellent days fishing there in past years. And while I haven't been up yet this year, I've been by it frequently and seen very little fishing pressure.
