Fished for a couple hours on the lower (wading allowed) section of the heritage area. Air temp around 40 no water temp taken. BWOs and midges in the air. Water was gin clear. Fished only one pool. I found fish there rising sporadically to the BWOs that were all around. Some landing on my chest pack as I tied my flies on! Very nice to be able to compare my fly to the natural so easily. These BWOs were very accomodating.
The fish in this particular pool were not so accomodating. Sporadic and teasing rises in complex currents...very few regular risers. I did find one regular rising fish along the bank - a nice wild (i think) brown that became my first dry fly fish of 2009. Welcome spring!!!!!!! The winning fly was a size 18 wingless bwo. Also happens to be the first fish on a dry fly I tied myself.
Ahhh dry flies...Life is good.
