The stream was turbid, but very fishable. It seemed to be more brown than green, but due to the 90 cfs flow you had no problem seeing the bottom. I would guess water temps to be about 64-66...again, I wet wade. Air temps were warm. I arrived on the water at 8:30am and left at 11am. When I left, the air temp was 91 degrees.
This stream has been beating me up of late, but I regained some dignity today.
Tricos were everywhere and the fish were cooperating. I lost track of how many I landed, missed, and lost, but, if I had to guess, I would say I landed 7 or 8, missed about 9, and lost another 6. All fish were caught outside the special reg area.
I believe the water's turbidity played a role in my success, but I don't want to discount the hours in front of the vice fiddling with my new fandangled female trico pattern!
I also hit the stream from 5pm - 8:30pm. I fished with nymphs during this period and managed 5 out of a deep run.
All of the fish caught, missed, and lost on tricos were wild brown trout. I caught 2 stocked brook trout, 2 rainbows, and 1 wild brown during my evening nymph session.
